Graduate Diploma in Acute Care Nursing

The Graduate Diploma in Acute Care Nursing is offered in affiliation with Latrobe University and is a 12- month program. Students of this program enrol in a Master of Nursing with the option to course complete with a Graduate Diploma of Acute Care Nursing after one year.

This program is designed to assist nurses in developing higher-order clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills. The Graduate Diploma of Acute Care Nursing will also assist the development of specialised clinical proficiency as well as the exceptional communication skills that are required to care for complex and acutely unwell patients within a chosen clinical practice area.

Department Information

We welcome applications from both internal and external candidates. Applicants must apply or currently be employed within one of the Medical Wards at Werribee Mercy Hospital. Minimum requirement for employed must be three (3) days or 24 hours per week for the duration of the course

To be eligible for this course, you must be nominated by your hospital to support you to undertake the clinical practice component of the course. Speak with your Clinical Nurse Educator to confirm that your hospital is willing to support your clinical supervision.

The number of positions each year is determined by EFT capability.

Applicants will be required to apply via the Mercy Health careers website.

To apply for the Graduate Diploma in Acute Nursing, you are required to have:

  • Completed a Bachelor of Nursing degree or higher-level degree (i.e. Master of Nursing Science – entry-to-practice); and
  • Current and unrestricted registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency; and
  • Documented evidence of a minimum of one-year post-registration clinical experience; and
  • references

Meeting these requirements does not guarantee selection.

Mercy Health will assess your application and if eligible, Mercy Health will support nomination to University of Melbourne. You will then submit your enrolment to Latrobe University
