Elective surgery pathways at our public hospital

Locations:
Elective surgery at Mercy Hospital for Women is accessed through an initial appointment at one of our outpatients clinics. You will be assessed and discuss with a specialist the most appropriate care for you, which may include elective surgery. Elective surgery involves a necessary operation to treat a disease or injury that may not be critically urgent.

Depending on the type of surgery you need, you may be able to go home after the procedure, or you may be required to stay overnight. Elective surgery is booked in advance: find out how to prepare, how long you may wait, where to go and what to do on the day of your surgery.

A range of elective surgical specialties are offered at the Mercy Hospital for Women, including:

  • general gynaecology
  • endosurgery
  • reproductive biology
  • urogynaecology
  • gynaecological oncology
  • obstetrics

Elective surgery is accessed via the Day Surgery Unit. This includes both same-day and overnight-stay patients.

In some situations patients can be admitted directly to our surgical inpatient ward before surgery.
