Emergency surgery at our public hospital

Locations:
Emergency surgery is a procedure that must be performed straight away; without it, your health may be at risk. At Werribee Mercy Hospital, we perform general emergency surgery 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

What is emergency surgery?

Emergency surgery is usually unplanned, and accessed after arriving at our Emergency Department. If you need emergency surgery, we will see you in a clinically appropriate amount of time based on an initial assessment of your specific symptoms or presentation. This process is called triage, and is used to determine the best approach to care for you.

The recovery from an emergency surgery procedure is generally the same as an elective surgery procedure. Sometimes, you may need to stay overnight at the hospital following emergency surgery.
