Your recovery

Locations:
There are certain things you can do to ensure the best possible recovery after surgery— even once you have left Werribee Mercy Hospital. Your care team will give you detailed information about your specific recovery process and answer your questions, and following these general recommendations is just as important.

To help with your recovery

Your post-surgery care will focus on:

  • early mobilisation
  • pain management
  • things to watch out for, including your abilities and limitations.

It is important you follow instructions given to you by your care team to enable you to have a good recovery.

What not to do

It is important you follow instructions given to you by your team to enable you to have a good recovery.

Some things you should NOT do include:

  • smoking
  • driving, signing legal documents or caring for young children on your own within the 24 hours after your anaesthetic
  • heavy lifting (in some cases)

You must have an adult carer with you for the next 24 hours after your anaesthetic.

Things to watch out for and who to contact

Your nurse will advise you of things to watch out for.

You are encouraged to ask any questions or raise concerns with the ward you are discharged from and at any time after your surgery. You will be provided the phone number to contact.

You will also be advised to see your GP for assistance, or contact the emergency department for urgent matters.
