Opening hours
The Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic runs:
- Monday–Friday, 8:30–9:30am by appointment
- Monday–Friday, 10am–12pm by referral from Emergency Department only.

What to do before

What to bring
Please bring:
- all current blood test and urine test results
- any pregnancy ultrasound results
- Medicare Card
- a list of medications you are on.
What to expect on the day
Appointment lengths vary according to your needs. Please allow an hour for your whole visit.

Team Composition
Throughout your experience you may be supported by:
- obstetric resident medical officer
- a registered nurse.
Discharge information
After you see the doctor you may be:
- discharged back to your GP
- transferred to the day surgery unit
- given medication or sent for more tests.
A return appointment will be made for you before you leave to go home.
For health professionals
The Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic provides non-acute care for women who have bleeding and/or pain within the first 16 weeks of pregnancy.
If you suspect an ectopic pregnancy, please refer to the Emergency Department.
Procedural information
Vaginal examinations will be performed in this clinic where clinically indicated.
Referrals to this service are assessed against the Statewide Referral Criteria. Please utilise HealthPathways to assist in making the referral. Referrals which do not meet the Statewide Referral Criteria will be declined.
How to prepare the patient
For external referrals patients will be contacted by phone within 48 hours to organise an appointment.
What/when you should refer to us
Please refer any patient who requires specialist opinion on possible early pregnancy loss within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. This includes for Anti-D administration.
What/when you should not refer to us
If patients present with the following, refer to Emergency Department:
-Suspected ectopic pregnancies.
