Opening hours
The Urology Clinic runs at least once a week with the following days available:
- twice a month on Monday, 8:30am–12:30pm
- once a month on Tuesday, 9am–12:30pm
- twice a month on Wednesday, 9am–4:30pm or 1:30–4:30pm
- three times a month on Thursday, 1:30–4:30pm
- once a month on Friday, 1:30–4:30pm

The Urolology Clinic sees patients with symptoms of the the urinary tract system needing specialist review.
Reason and Required Investigations (essential with referral)
Macroscopic (visable) Haematuria
- recent Electrolytes, Urea, Creatinine, GFR, FRE, PSA
- MSU micro and culture
- urine cytology x3
- renal ultrasound
- consider CT Urogram.
Renal stones
- MSU (microscopy and culture)
- Serum Ca++, uric acid and Phosphate for recurrent stone makers
- CTKUB (kidneys/ureters/bladder) (non-contrast)
- U&E’s, Creatinine, GFR.
Suspected cancer of the prostrate (including elevated PSA)
- PSA on 2 or more interval specimens
- PSA with free/total %
- FBE ; U&Es ; Creatinine and GFR
- consider MSU.
Scrotal Abnormality
- testicular/scrotal USS
- tumour markers if testicular mass
- MSU
- FBE, U&E, creatinine and GFR.
Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (Male)
- MSU (micro and culture)
- USS Urinary tract
- PSA
- U&E’s.
Immediate assessment or admission criteria (not an exhaustive list)
Check criteria for immediate assessment or admission.
- urinary retention (with or without catheter)
- renal colic
- frank haematuria
- any condition requiring urgent attention that cannot wait within 30 days please refer to the emergency department.
How to prepare the patient
Referrals to this service are assessed against the Statewide Referral Criteria. Please utilise HealthPathways to assist in making the referral. Referrals which do not meet the Statewide Referral Criteria will be declined.
If your patient’s condition changes before they see the specialist, they should either contact their GP or go to Emergency Department.

Do not refer:
- Vasectomy
- Erectile dysfunction unrelated to previous surgery or radiation therapy
- cosmetic surgery including circumcision, penile enhancements and penile implants
- infertility surgery
Exclusion Criteria: Urology Clinics
The following urology conditions are not routinely seen at Werribee Mercy Hospital:
- patients that are being treated for the same condition at another Victorian Public Hospital
- vasectomy
- erectile dysfunction unrelated to previous surgery or radiation therapy
- cosmetic surgery including circumcision, penile enhancements and penile implants
- infertility surgery.

Mercy Health recommends clinicians to access HealthPathways Melbourne for guidance in assessing, managing and referring for patient conditions (login required).
Referrals to outpatient clinics at Mercy Health will be triaged against clinical information and investigations based on these guidelines.
Referrals that do not meet the required clinical information and investigations will not be accepted.

HealthLink is a secure digital platform for sending referrals directly from your GP practice software (Best Practice, Genie, Medical Director and MedTech Evolution).
Practices without conformant software can register for a free HealthLink Portal licence by completing the online registration form and noting in the comments/message field that you would like to use the SmartForms, then selecting the two checkboxes – (1) Receive Electronic Correspondence (free of charge) and (3) Send Electronic Smart Forms (My Aged Care, Transport for NSW, Monash Health etc).
Once HealthLink receives your completed registration application, this will be processed and the portal details will be forwarded to you.
