Overview
The Endoscopy Hub cares for people who need a colonoscopy and/or gastroscopy. On the day of your procedure, go to the Endoscopy Hub reception to be admitted. This is also where your support person can pick you up once you have been discharged.
Please check your letter carefully.

How can people get access?
To access the Endoscopy Hub, enter Werribee Mercy Hospital via the main entrance on Hoppers Crossing. From Main Reception, follow the signs for Endoscopy.
Your appointment
What to do before
To prepare for your appointment, make sure you:
- bring comfortable day clothes, or loose-fitting clothes
- take the appropriate bowel preparation as prescribed by your doctor
- have a support person arranged to pick you up after the procedure and stay with you for 24 hours
- follow the correct fasting guidelines for your procedure.
What to bring
Please bring:
- your appointment letter
- your Medicare card
- any other healthcare/concession cards
- a list of medicines you are currently taking (or the boxes/packaging), including medicines you have bought without a prescription, such as herbal supplements and vitamins.
What to expect on the day
The amount of time you spend in hospital will depend on your procedure and recovery time. Please do not hesitate to ask our nurses your expected pick-up time.
After checking in with our reception staff, you will be asked to take a seat in the waiting room. A nurse will come and show you to the changing area before the procedure begins.
When your procedure is finished, the nursing staff will care for you through recovery and contact your support person when it is time for them to pick you up.

Throughout your experience, you may be supported by:
- doctors
- nurses
- anaesthetists
- pharmacists
- interpreters (if required).
Discharge information
When you are discharged you will be given:
- a medical certificate or carer’s medical certificate
- a discharge summary
- any prescribed discharge medication.
We will also send your GP a post-operation summary.
Who to call if you have concerns afterwards
If you have any concerns or problems when you return home, you can contact:
- the Endoscopy Hub (Monday to Friday 7am-8pm)
- your GP
- the closest Emergency Department.
In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000).
For health professionals
The Endoscopy Hub is a procedure-specific area, dedicated to delivering streamlined endoscopy care. Patients who do not require an overnight stay will be seen in the Endoscopy Hub and discharged home after their procedure.
Procedural information
Referrals to this service are assessed against the Statewide Referral Criteria. Referrals that do not meet the Statewide Referral Criteria will be declined.
How to prepare the patient
Please include all relevant test results with the wait list referral forms, including treatment required and medical history.
