Carer Consultant Program

Locations:

The mental health program employs a person with experience as a carer of someone with a mental illness as a carer consultant to work with the program and support it to be more responsive to the needs of carers. The carer consultant is also available to carers to provide support and facilitate access.

The carer consultant participates in program leadership, consumer advisory and planning meetings to provide a carer voice to service operations and planning. The carer consultant is available to meet with carers to provide support and to facilitate access. They also facilitate group support and a link to the local carer support groups.

Carer consultant

For health professionals

A carer consultant is a worker who has been or is a carer of someone with a mental illness. They provide consultation regarding carer issues and needs across the Mercy Mental Health Service. Carer consultants encourage carer participation and links with carer organisations.

The carer consultant participates in program leadership, consumer advisory and planning meetings to provide a carer voice to service operations and planning. The carer consultant is available to meet with carers to provide support and to facilitate access. They also facilitate group support and a link to the local carer support groups.
