Emergency Department expansion

The Werribee Mercy Hospital Emergency Department expansion is an investment project from the Victorian Government to support the rapidly growing population of Melbourne’s outer west. The expansion will double the current emergency department capacity and support an extra 25,000 presentations each year. The project is due to be complete in 2026.

Why is the emergency department expanding?

Werribee Mercy Hospital serves a growing population of more than 300,000 residents, and this expansion will provide a bigger, state-of-the-art facility that delivers the best possible emergency care. It will be double the current capacity and be able to care for an additional 25,000 patients each year. The expansion will have dedicated spaces for treatment and enhance patient flow, safety and overall quality of care for the growing community.

When will the emergency department expansion be complete?

The emergency department expansion is set to be complete in 2026.

Is the emergency department still open?

Yes, the emergency department is still open and can be accessed via the Princes Hwy. See below for entry to the ED.

Where can I park?

Parking is available in the multi-storey car part at the rear of the hospital. Due to building works, there is limited parking available in the main entrance car park. Find all parking information below.

What is the patient bus service?

The patient bus service is a free service to help you get around our hospital. The bus transports patients and visitors between the following locations:
1. Multi-storey car park
2. Hospital main entrance
3. Gabrielle Jenning Centre (palliative care inpatient service)
4. Outpatient Clinic
The bus operates seven days a week from 8.00am – 8.00pm.
