Appointments are conducted in the outpatient department on level 3 or via telephone consultation with a pre-admission nurse.

Opening hours

Pre-admission Service: Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm. Pre-admission Clinic: Monday–Friday, 1.30pm–5pm Closed Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays

Your appointment

What to do before

If you are instructed to attend our pre-admission clinic, please allow three hours for this appointment. You will see various health professionals including a doctor, pre-admission nurse, and physiotherapist.

You do not need to fast (avoid food) for this appointment.

At your appointment, we may discuss or complete the following:

• a review of your medical history
• a pre-admission assessment
• information and preparation for your operation
• admission time
• fasting instructions for your surgery
• possible blood tests, x-rays, or electrocardiograms (ECGs)
• organising additional tests if required
• arrangements for you to see an anaesthetist before your operation if required.

What to bring

Please bring the following to your appointment:

• a list of all medicines you are currently taking, including medicines you have bought without a prescription, such as herbal supplements and vitamins
• any relevant x-rays, scans or other test results or reports
• Medicare card
• Healthcare card and/or Veteran Affairs card (if you have one)
• private health insurance details (if applicable, or you want to use your private health insurance)
• reading glasses (if you need them)
• a book to read while you are waiting.

What to expect on the day

Please allow three hours for your pre-admission clinic appointment, as you will see a physiotherapist, your doctor and the pre-admission nurse.
