Postgraduate Certificate of Nursing – Emergency

Werribee Mercy Hospital recruits suitably qualified nurses who wish to complete the Graduate Certificate in Emergency Nursing run in conjunction with the University of Melbourne.

The program commences in February each year and runs for 52 weeks. The course at Werribee Mercy Hospital offers:

  • good clinical teacher-to-student ratio
  • access to paid tertiary study and exam leave
  • rotation to all areas of the Emergency Department, including cubicles, resuscitation bays, short stay unit and triage
  • paid, supernumerary
  • airway management day spent in anaesthetics.

Department Information

The current Werribee Mercy Hospital Emergency Department opened in June 2005. It offers students extensive hands-on experience.

Currently, there are about 36,000 patient presentations a year, with that number expected to rise to 50,000 in the near future. Both adult and paediatric patients are cared for in emergency. Around a quarter of presentations are paediatric. The Emergency Department also works closely with our mental health colleagues, allied health staff and emergency services.

A new Emergency Department Short Stay Unit opened in April 2011, offering adult and paediatric beds.
